Today Petfinder.com is celebrating Adopt-the-Internet Day in honor of their 15th Birthday and in honor of helping 17 million rescued animals find new homes. This is such a big day and event, that even Oprah is celebrating with us today!
So what is Adopt the Internet Day? It is a day for people everywhere to pledge to spread the word online about adoptable pets today, March 15, 2011. Did you know that more than 320,000 pets are waiting for homes on Petfinder.com? Amazing pets - dogs, cats, rabbits, birds, horses, pigs, lizards, you name it - you can probably find it on Petfinder! Our goal is to help Petfinder Adopt the Internet today and find forever homes for as many as possible!
I think people have a big misconception about adopting an animal from a rescue or a shelter. People want "pure bred" dogs and think they can't find that without buying from a breeder. Or they think that rescue/shelter animals have bad temperaments. This is simply just not true. First - you can find rescues that cater to specific breeds or simply search by breed on Petfinder, you can also search by size, age, gender. You can find exactly what you're looking for on petfinder - you may not find it today, but if you keep searching I promise you will find the perfect animal for your family. And as far as the personality or temperament of a rescue animal - any animal you bring home, be it from a shelter or a breeder, is still an animal. They still need training and love and help from you so they fit in perfectly with your family.
So if you're looking to adopt a new pet - check out the Adopt the Internet Allstars, some of the most adoptable pets across the country! Or search locally for the perfect pet for your family.
When I adopted Astrea I hadn't planned on getting another dog so soon, but I loved surfing petfinder just looking at all the cute dogs and cats that were available. When Astrea's picture came up I fell in love. Those eyebrows and that little furry face just sucked me in. I've had to stop surfing petfinder in the past year for fear that I may get sucked in by another gorgeous face, but when I'm ready to bring a friend home for Astrea, you can rest assured, I will find that dog on petfinder.
