1. When did you begin your blog?
I started my first blog in the spring/summer of 2009. I started a second in the fall and then at some point, I can't remember where, I combined them to become A Blog from the Doghouse.
2. What was your original purpose for starting a blog?
When I first got started the entire purpose was to keep my friends and family up to date on my fight against the group I adopted Sancho from. The more I talked with law enforcement and heard from other people who had been in the same situation, the more people wanted to know. Rather than answer the same questions a million times I went ahead and started a blog. After a while it was a little depressing to just write about such a terrible and stressful situation. That's when I started a second blog to chronicle the funny things Astrea and Jameson were doing. When I decided to combine the blogs, I realized that I wanted to write about other things happening in the world of animals and also talk about the things I was learning about animal law. So it was at that point I transitioned to a more general concept for the blog.
3. Is your current purpose the same?
I think my purpose is bigger now. I want people to know about Sancho's story so that they can watch out for the things I didn't know to look for. I want people to understand that just because a group calls themselves a rescue doesn't mean they are. But I also want to get educated on other things - picking the right foods, the health of their animals, things happening in the law that affects our animals. And I want to make people laugh or smile and just get a kick out of the funny things Astrea and Ora do that make me love having them around.
4. Do you blog on a schedule or as the spirit moves you?
I try to keep certain things on a schedule. If you read my blog regularly you'll know that there are certain things I (try to) do weekly. Other than, whenever the mood strikes me or I find a funny video or a heartwarming story I post it.
5. Are you generating income from your blog?
I do generate a minimal amount of revenue, and am very lucky to receive generous offers from different companies that work in the pet care industry.
6. What do you like most about blogging in general and your blog in particular (bragging is good!)?
This really is my favorite thing, mainly because it makes me laugh, I LOVE that my obsession with Coco and Tori Spelling has brought me a HUGE amount of traffic. I never would have imagined that me posting about how much I love those two, and their animals, would have brought so many people here. It's amazing. Thanks Coco and Tori!
7. What do you like least?
Sometimes it does feel like work. I really love blogging, and want to continue, but there are times when things are busy and I think, "I should really write a new post," but I would rather play with Ora and Astrea. And sometimes it's hard. It's hard to not post about the same things you read on every other blog, or repost the same video you've seen all over the internet. Sometimes, the creativity and the drive just isn't there.
8. How do you see your blog changing/growing in 2012?
I don't know. This is going to be a huge year of changes for our little household. I would love to say that this blog is going to grow and change and continue to get better and better, but honestly - I don't know. So all I can say is - I hope that I can do as much as I can and bring even more to the table in 2012.
