I adopted Astrea after Sancho passed. I always tell people Sancho found her for me. She's a total spaz, really smart and incredibly sassy. Her mom was adopted from a shelter and the next day had puppies. Astrea was the only puppy that came out mostly black. She gets so excited she cries when she sees people she loves like her grandparents.
Ora came to us by surprise. As shocked as people are to hear it, my beautiful little Abyssinian kitty was a stray living in a family friend's backyard. I thought Astrea needed a little sister and Ora sure was cute. She loves running from one end of the house to other and sitting in the window. She's still not sure about Astrea, but will cuddle with her every now and then.
I never thought I'd be as interested and involved with animals as I have become in the last couple of years. I've always hated zoos, but not for any great, profound reason, simply because they make me sad. I just feel wrong being there. Last time I went to a zoo I left with a concussion, I think it was the universe telling me to never go back to a zoo again in my life. So, I haven't been since. I love my puppy and kitty, I think breeders are unnecessary and puppy mills are the things evil are made of. If you want to know why I blog, read about Sancho & I.
I don't know what type of law I want to practice yet, so don't ask. I've worked with kids and prisoners since starting law school. If I had to choose between the two I tell ya, I preferred the prisoners. In the end, whatever I do, I just want to be happy and have fun. I would love to do something with animals, but we'll just have to see what happens.
And finally, sometimes when I hear the song Santaria by Sublime I cry, because that was Sancho's song.
Astrea & I after her first 5k for the Sacramento SPCA
In Cabras, Sardinia, Italy the dogs walk around all day like they are getting things done. They play with their friends, go hang out outside restaurants. It's amazing. I had to take a picture with one of the Cabras dogs because i loved them so much. I wish my dogs could enjoy life like that.
